This wonderful shawl was inspired by some rather striking tiles I came across on an old building while on holiday in France. The beauty of the tiles was in the simplicity of their design, just triangles positioned on top of each other with a grey coloured streak running across the length of the tile. When designing Essie, I tried to incorporate elements of this style into the design.
The shawl starts with a garter tip before moving onto lace section which is formed of reverse stocking stitch triangles with eyelet intervals. The shawl is worked from tip to tip with an asymmetrical “spine” which echoes the grey coloured streak in the tile. Essie was a joy to design and knit, hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I have.
The garter section is written and the lace section charted.
Essie is part of a collection created for Rooster Yarns gorgeous new yarn, Rooster Alpaca 4 ply.

Materials

3 x Rooster Alpaca 4ply – 367 m/400 yrd per 100g skein

(Photographed in Silver 102) I have used above yarn, but any 4ply weight yarn will be fine to use for this shawl, you will need approximately 810 m/885 yrd, taking into account that different fibres result in different drape and effect of finished shawl.

3.5 mm (UK 9/ US 4) 80cm (32in) (or longer) circular knitting needles

Stitch marker

Finished size

Completed shawl after blocking measures 211 cm (83 in) wide along top curve and 105 cm (41 in) high.
