I teach a range of workshops throughout the UK and have vast teaching experience. I teach all levels of knitting and crochet including seasonal classes, custom classes available on request. This workshop is aimed at the complete beginner. During this project based workshop you will learn how to knit a super chunky hat.

We will cover:

Casting on

We will also discuss understanding different yarns and their tensions, choosing suitable projects and reading simple patterns. All you need to get going with a new skill.

Students to bring an 80m ball of super chunky yarn and a pair of 10mm needles.

LEARN TO KNIT

Would you like to jump on the knitting wagon but no idea where to start? This is the knitting class for you! We’ll teach you all our favourite techniques and you’ll leave with the skills to make a lovely chunky bobble hat.

In this chilly weather, knitting is really the perfect hobby. Think of all those woolly treasures you could create for yourself with your very own hands. After taking Intro to Knitting you will be able to read a pattern and so that matching scarf, hat and mittens set you’ve been dreaming of can be yours!

Here’s what you will learn in our Intro to Knitting class:

  • How to cast on to knitting needles
  • How to cast off at the end of your project
  • How to knit and purl (and what those mean!)
  • How to reduce stitches and get shaping into your knitting
  • How to make a pompom

All materials and equipment will be provided at the knitting class, which you can then take away with you. You will leave with a finished bobble hat in just three hours!

CROCHET SOCKS

A superb introduction to crocheting socks.

During this workshop you will work on a basic mini sock crocheted toe-up. The toe-up technique allows for try-on-as-you-go sizing when making full socks.
We will cover:
Wedge toe technique
How to work in continuous link stitches to create a tighter, yet stretchier, fabric
Step by step gusset increases
Heel turn
Heel flap
Gusset decreases
Cuff ribbing

Students to bring DK yarn and a 3.5mm hook.
This class is for intermediate crocheters who have an accomplished grasp of basic stitches, can work in rows, rounds and can follow a pattern.

A great introduction to sock knitting or a refresher if it’s been a while since you last had a go. During this workshop you will work on a basic mini sock knitted toe-up, equipping you with a method that allows for trying on as you go when knitting full size socks.

How to knit the toe
Increasing for the gusset
How to turn the heel
Working the heel flap
Stretchy cast off for comfortable cuffs

LOVE IN EVERY STITCH

A project based workshop

‘Love in every stitch’ is a phrase we use a lot here to describe the sentiment of the slow textiles movement and the craft of hand knitting, especially when making something for the people or places that matter to us.

This project based workshop introduces a beautiful corner-to-corner blanket that looks great from both sides and becomes the ideal gift for someone special or to grace your surroundings with a considered combination.
We will cover:
Slip stitch technique
Diagonal corner to corner construction
How to adjust sizing from pushchair to kingsize bed
Yarn substitution and adjusting needle size accordingly
Explore colour; looking at birth month colours, mood colours and landscape to combine the perfect palette with love in every stitch.

Students to bring a minimum of seven colours in yarn weight of their choice and circular needles for that yarn weight.
This class is suitable for knitters with a confident grasp of knit, purl, casting on, casting off, increasing and decreasing skills.

An excellent skills expanding class (written instructions for short rows can leave even experienced knitters baffled but once shown and explained in a workshop session, you will have it sussed. This technique is appearing more frequently in patterns, don’t hold yourself back from a design because of the ‘short row terrors’)

We will cover:
Mastering short row shaping in knit and purl rows
Wrap and turn (w&t on many pattern instructions but replaceable with the other methods)
Japanese short row shaping
German short rows – the clear favourite from last year’s class

Students to bring yarn and needles.
This class is not suitable for beginners. Participants must be able to confidently cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, follow a pattern and cast off.

PROFESSIONAL FINISHING TECHNIQUES

You will learn the all-important professional finish to your garments.
We will cover:
Various joining methods, where and when to use them
Best methods of fitting in sleeve, shoulder and side seams
Tried and tested increasing and decreasing methods
Casting on and off techniques
Picking up stitches
How to work a perfect buttonhole
The importance and ways of blocking your knits

Students to bring a sewing up needle, 4mm needles, 6 squares of 10cm in DK weight yarn (3 x stocking stitch, 3 x garter stitch) and spare yarn in a contrasting colour.
This class is designed as a technique expansion and is not suitable for beginners. Participants must have an excellent grasp of basic skills.

FAIR ISLE AND STEEKING

10am – 3pm

A class we have run previously and had many requests to repeat….Fair Isle in the first half, lunch break followed by cutting up your beautifully constructed knitting.

Part One: during this section you will learn how to work colour cast on, knit with two colours using the two-handed method, strand the yarn, knit in the round and read Fair Isle charts.

Part Two: learn how to reinforce your steek then take a deep breath, pick up the scissors and cut the fabric you have so lovingly created (we know…gulp) then pick up for edgings.
Having survived the shearing, you can celebrate with a cuppa and biscuits.

Students to bring a selection of DK or worsted weight wool in 3 colours, 4mm dpns and courage.
This class is for knitters with confident skills generally, who can read charts and have basic colourwork skills.
Refreshments provided. Fridge to store your lunch. Lunch break to stretch your legs.

This class is suitable for knitters who can confidently cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and cast off. An understanding of knitting in the round is helpful.An excellent introduction to colourwork.

BRYONY SHAWL

A project based workshop

Stunning new design from Moochka, the label of our regular tutor Anna.
During this class you will work on the border of your shawl (students will be given the pattern for the main section of the shawl at the time of booking. This needs to be crocheted and brought to class.) Colour combining and choosing the perfect palette is key.
We will cover:
A great array of techniques to create the eye-catching border
Working from the pattern
Reading the charted design

Students require 2 balls of Rowan Felted Tweed for the main section of the shawl and 6 contrasting shades for the border (the contrasts can, if you prefer, be chosen in class during the colour combining discussion) and a 6mm hook.
This class is suitable for those with confident basic ability looking to expand their skills with a stunning project.
